Tip of the Week

1) Locate the picture, graphic, or pattern that you would like to use. Some of the places to find pictures are in magazines, free online clipart sites, clipart CD-Roms, coloring books, and other similiar places.


2) Make a photocopy of the picture, graphic or pattern. If the pattern is too small, enlarge it on a copier. Another option is to place this pattern on a lightbox and trace it onto another piece of paper for cutting out.

3) Before cutting out your pattern, label each piece. For example: left leg, right arm, head, etc. After you have done this, you are ready to cut the pattern out.

4) Now you are ready to make your actual piecing pattern. Using each of the parts you cut out, trace it onto the paper or cardstock that you wish to use with it. If you were doing a pattern with a child, you may wish to cut his hair out of a brown or yellow piece of scrapbook paper, and so on.

5) Cut out all of these pieces and then assemble them in your scrapbook layout. One of the best glues to use for assembling your pattern is any of the "repositionable" types, because you can reposition the pieces until you have the look you are trying for.

6) Take your cutout "pattern" (not the finished product that you use in your scrapbook) and place it in an envelope or zipper-styled baggie and label it, for safe keeping. That way you will have your pattern all ready for the next time.
