January 3, 2003, Newsletter Issue #110: Paper Textures-Paper Tearing

Tip of the Week

Paper Tearing
Just as easy as tearing open presents on your birthday or at Christmas! This technique requires NO tools and is very easy to do.

Rules for tearing:
Tear toward you for a rough white edge.
Tear away from you for a rough edge without the white.

You can use water to draw the design to make tearing easier. Use your thumb to make more intricate tears.

*Chalking the edge gives you added dimension! Torn edges accept chalk very well.
You can roll the torn edges for an even more dimensional look.

Uses for torn paper:
Journal Blocks
Borders
Flowers
Mosaic with torn cardstock pieces
Water
Sand
Mountains
Vellum tears nicely
Mats for photos
Letters
Snowballs
